Societal challenges

We are committed to create purpose with Artificial Intelligence
At Axionable, we believe that enterprises addressing societal challenges as part of their core strategy achieve a competitive edge. We also believe that Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies are not only supporting the business but are now part of the business.

Our mission at Axionable is to help companies create sustainable value by using AI responsibly, with positive and measurable impact for their business and the communities. We build AI with purpose, working together with our clients and a diverse ecosystem of Academia, NGO & Governments.

We believe in both Sustainability and AI as a clear link to business value
Starting at home, our 4 commitments to Axionable’s sustainable growth are:
of our revenues aligned with UN Global Goals by 2021
on our carbon footprint by 2020
gender diversity by 2020 for a better empowerment of woman
black-list controversy activities: tobacco, liquors, defense & fossil energies

We deliver sustainable value from the Executive Committee to the Cloud

We solve real Business problems and create Positive Impact for Society
We focus our energy on 7 use cases, all related to United Nation Sustainable Development Goals, where we found AI is proven to create positive impact at scale:
Good health and well-being
The latest improvements in AI technologies now supports well-being and quality of life at work by predicting social risks situation. Sexual & moral harassment, burnout, isolation, … Artificial Intelligence (AI) is now able to flag psychological risks. Such AI could provide social impact for Human Resources within any enterprise, as well as for insurers & healthcare players, with a careful attention on personal & health data management. In the manufacturing & transportation sectors, computer vision technologies (AI applied to images and videos) flags risky postures and behaviors of operators.
Sustainable Cities and Communities
Climate change impacts socioeconomic systems across the globe. The rise of temperature combined with huge hazards such as floods, hurricanes or heat waves are generating chronic & hard to forecast risks for enterprises and organizations.Machine Learning algorithms, fueled with open data massively available in this field (weather forecast, satellite images, …).We offer AI services & solutions for manufacturers, transport operators, insurers and other players to better anticipate these risks, and avoid disasters for their stakeholders: employees, plant neighbors, clients, suppliers, etc.
Sustainable Cities and Communities
The financial services industry is currently at a cornerstone, with a profound mutation of its core model. Beyond managing ESG as a risks, a strategic approach to sustainability for the financial industry is a powerful competitive advantage and differentiation. For retail banks & wealth manager, a responsible & inclusive approach to risks, powered by unbiased & fair AI models, is a tremendous opportunity to provide finance services such as payments facilities, loans or mortgage to new segments of clients. For corporate bankers, asset managers and custodian banks, the scoring of assets over environmental and social metrics is the new norm. Responsible indexes proliferate (DJSI, MSCI, FTSE4Good, Indice Stoxx® Global ESG Leaders, CDP, Oekom, Vigeo Eiris, ATM just to name a few), calling for an in depth analysis of their strengths & weaknesses to drive competitive advantages.
Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
For each step of the supply chain, AI is proven to drive efficiencies, differentiation & societal outcomes. Upstream, AI is key to align the suppliers with the responsible sourcing strategic of the enterprises. Predictive KYS (Know Your Supplier) is powerful to help identify the appropriate suppliers & de-risk the sourcing process. Deeper in the manufacturing process, AI application can suggest more sustainable alternative to molecules. As an example, we have developed an AI scanning the global patents & scientific publications databases, using NLP (Natural Language Processing) to identify an alternative corpus of molecule consuming less in terms of water and / or power supply. Downstream, AI helps decarbonize the goods freight transport. With models inherited from proven operational research methods, AI optimizes the routes of trucks, trains & cargos, thus reducing CO2 emissions. AI also optimize the offer – demand matching, with advanced predictive forecasting of the demand.
Affordable and Clean energy
AI offers an infinite number of ways to optimize how our society produce, trade, transport, consume and recycle energies such as electricity and heat. To accelerate the adoption of renewable energies, AI is an enabler of smart grids, a way to cope with a large number of scattered power generation plants such as windmills or solar panels. Inside renewable energy infrastructures, AI support the predictive maintenance of electronic and physical equipment. AI can also support energy & utilities companies in their fight against sabotage and vandalism by offering effective computer vision based security to protect valuable assets and grids and reduce the need for on-site security staff. For the construction & real-estate industry, data, analytics and artificial intelligence offer prescriptive tools to build high environmental standards as a differentiator or just to comply with the regulations. The electricity traders enjoy advanced forecasting of power demand to avoid shortage and ensure a smooth trading of electricity. For the consumer, AI is embedded into smart home appliances and smart meters, to help a responsible management of electricity, heat and water or prevent home accidents.
Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions
Fake news and political ad-targeting are proliferating across the Internet and social networks, with a proven influence on democracy. AI solutions such as Natural Language Processing technologies help NGO and media players flag fake news. Education on how social media analytics & AI work is key to raise awareness of the populations. AI is also a powerful boost to the development of the subscription based business model in the media industry thanks to informed value based strategies, churn prediction analyses ...thus encouraging media independence and pluralism.
Quality education
Some predict AI will create a massive number of jobs, other assume the opposite and consider AI as a threat for rule-based jobs. For sure, AI is the 4th industrial revolution and deeply impacts the way we work. Latest advances in machine and deep learning, combined with other technologies (AR, VR, IoT, …) dramatically shifts the repartition of the tasks done by human, the ones done by the machine and the ones done by “augmented” human. To adopt a sustainable approach to AI-transformation, companies must insource the reconversion & re-skilling of workforce to AI, previously often considered as externalities.
